‘Technique & Theory’ is a theme-based class, covering technical and philosophical aspects of the practice of Astanga yoga in a practical and down-to-earth manner.
The aim is to give additional tools to practice intelligently, with mindful awareness. By switching off the auto pilot and understanding the technique, purpose and context of what we do, we can ideally focus our inner gaze on ourselves and find an internal shift to presence.
“Yoga is 99% practice, 1% theory” – Sri K Pattabhi Jois
Next class TBA!
Previous classes:
- Breath and Pranayama on Saturday May 6th at 10-11.30“The Ashtanga Yoga practice is a breathing practice, the rest is just bending” – Sri K Pattabhi Jois. Breath is the most vital process in the entire body and at the very heart of the Astanga yoga practice. This session will help us to better understand our breath. We will break down and build up the breathing technique, and practice simple breath work to deepen our control of the breath. We will also experiment finding the bandhas through the correct breathing. You will learn a short basic pranayama sequence, that can open the door to new possibilities within the practice of yoga, and guide towards the state of meditation. This workshop is suitable for all levels of practitioners. Inhale, exhale!
- 1% Theory on Saturday January 28th at 10-11.30. There are plenty of ways to interpret the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois’ famous pronouncement: “99% practice, 1% theory”. In this class we’ll discuss the equation and cover the very basic theory and philosophy behind the practice of Astanga yoga in a down to earth and light manner. What does Astanga mean? What are yamas and niyamas? How does all this relate to my practice? What is ‘practice’ anyhow? Please sign up online!
